Ian is the Director of Science and Policy and leads DSF’s national science-based research, strategy, and stakeholder-engagement initiatives to advance environmental solutions.
Having been at DSF since 2003, Ian has led the Foundation’s landmark campaign to secure a climate action plan for British Columbia, which led to the introduction of North America’s first significant carbon tax in 2008 and has since been involved actively on the climate change portfolio.
Before joining the Foundation in 2002, Ian founded an innovative educational program on the impacts of climate change on mountain environments as part of Canada’s contribution to the U.N.’s International Year of the Mountains. He began his career as a geophysicist for one of the largest oil and gas service companies in the world.
He is a board member on Al Gore’s non-profit organization The Climate Reality Project Canada , a steering committee member of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives’ Climate Justice Project, and a member of the City of Vancouver’s Greenest City Action Plan Advisory Team. Ian holds a B.Sc. in geological engineering from the University of New Brunswick and a management certificate from Harvard Business.
